Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has been excluded from the months-long planning process for the operation to oust Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
According to Bloomberg sources, the reason was her previous statements against military intervention in Venezuela, which raised doubts about her readiness to support the operation.
Gabbard’s suspension became so obvious that some White House staffers joked that the abbreviation for her DNI position stood for “Do Not Invite.”
In 2019, as a Democratic congresswoman, Tulsi Gabbard called on the United States to “stay away” from Venezuela. Recently, she again criticized the “warmongers” who, in her opinion, are pushing the country into conflict.
These positions have become the basis for distrust on the part of President Donald Trump’s inner circle.
Despite official statements of “full confidence” in Gabbard, photos from the White House’s “war room” during the operation showed Trump next to key advisers – Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller. Gabbard was not among them.
Such a suspension is “highly unusual,” as the Director of National Intelligence is traditionally the president’s chief intelligence adviser and coordinates the work of 18 US intelligence agencies.
