The Ukrainian manufacturer of unmanned systems Vyriy Drone has developed the Veresen mothership drone, which delivers FPV drones deep into enemy territory and scouts out targets for them.

The company’s CEO Oleksii Babenko told Militarnyi about this at the Defense Tech Valley 2025 exhibition.

The twin-engine unmanned aircraft was developed by the company in partnership with the developers of the K-2 unit and was named after its commander Kyrylo Veres.

“A large part of this drone was created by the K-2 development team, which we have known since the beginning of the Russian invasion. They had a lot of problems because the product was difficult to develop within an army unit, so we joined in, involving our people, money and resources,” says Oleksii Babenko.

The carrier drone can carry two copters with a payload of up to 1.5 kilograms, which is enough to install a fragmentation warhead or a PG-7V series anti-tank grenade.

The maximum flight radius of the mothership reaches tens of kilometers, depending on the payload, to which is added the range of the attack drones. The latter can relay two communication channels simultaneously.

The company also offers to use the platform as a self-sufficient kamikaze drone, which can carry up to 4 kilograms of payload for 60 minutes at a distance of up to 75 kilometers.

It can also be used as a reconnaissance drone, where the payload is replaced with additional batteries. This increases the flight time to 180 minutes and the range to 50 kilometers.

“It is ready for mass production as a reconnaissance drone and is still being tested in operation with FPV drones. All the characteristics are good, but we are still looking for the ultimate parameters for convenient operation,” says Vyriy Drone CEO.

Communication is a key aspect of a drone’s reliable operation deep behind enemy lines, so Veresen uses a constant frequency modulated radio frequency (RF) module and a spatial navigation system that is oriented to ground beacons.

The drone is launched from a catapult. Once in the air, it can reach a cruising speed of 70 km/h with the ability to accelerate to 130 km/h.

At the exhibition, Vyriy Drone also presented the ultra-cheap Blyskavka unmanned kamikaze aircraft worth UAH 35 thousand, which can hit targets at a distance of 80 kilometers.
