The Ukrainian volunteer optical laboratory (VOL) repaired 3,272 military devices in the first half of 2024.
The laboratory told Militarnyi that it saved the army more than $10 million.
“The number of repairs has increased by 28% compared to 2023,” the volunteers say.
The total cost of the repairs amounted to about 6% of the cost of new devices, which was estimated at UAH 462,238,000 ($11,319,765).
“Thanks to this fund, we managed to save $10,673,967 from the community, volunteers, and the military,” the laboratory says.
Vector Optical Laboratory was founded in 2015 by military volunteers Ihor Fedirko and Andriy Vysocyn.
The organization repairs faulty optoelectronic devices: thermal imaging, collimator sights, night vision devices, and thermal imagers.
The repaired devices are used by the military for reconnaissance, surveillance, fire adjustment, night operations, and combat drops.
In the summer of 2023, the foundation opened a new area of drone repair.
The cost of repairs in the VOL fund usually does not exceed 15% of the cost of new devices.
Currently, the organization is raising UAH 3.5 million as part of the “It’s Easier to Beat the Enemy Together” campaign.
According to the VOL’s plans, this amount should cover the repair of about 800 devices, including drones and optoelectronic devices (thermal imagers, night vision goggles, and thermal sights).
