The U.S. Navy nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75) and the bulk carrier Besiktas-M collided in the Mediterranean Sea.
This was reported by the press service of the U.S. Sixth Fleet.
The incident occurred on February 12 at about 23:46 local time near Port Said.
The aircraft carrier was not damaged, its nuclear reactors remained intact and are in a stable condition. There are no reports of injuries among the crew.
The Sixth Fleet reported that an investigation into the collision had been launched.
The Besiktas-M vessel is flying the Panamanian flag. There is currently no information about damage to the Besiktas-M or injuries among its crew.
According to the Marinetraffic monitoring service, the vessel is in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Given the significant difference in displacement, depending on the collision conditions, the civilian vessel could have sustained significant hull damage.
As a reminder, the USS Harry S. Truman is conducting Operation Prosperity Guardian against the Houthis in the Red Sea, which ensures the safety of civilian shipping.
As part of the operation, the aircraft carrier suffered losses of its deck aviation: at the end of 2022, it was reported that a US missile cruiser accidentally shot down an F/A-18F Super Hornet fighter jet during its flight over the Red Sea.
The plane was shot down by the missile cruiser USS Gettysburg (CG-64), which is part of the USS Harry S. Truman carrier strike group.
In January, the carrier group, according to Houthis, was attacked by drones and missiles, but the United States does not recognize this.
