The US Department of Defense reported that they have already started procurment of NASAMS air defense systems, which they promised to transfer to Ukraine.
This was discussed at a briefing in the Pentagon.
“I do not have the detailed information on the specifics of the contracting process but we are already in the process of procuring the system (NASAMS for Ukraine – Ed.),” a high-ranking official of the Ministry of Defense said.
He did not specify the terms of the contracts.
In the beginning of July, the US announced the transfer of air defense systems to Ukraine.
Later, it became known that two batteries of the system should be provided.
NASAMS systems are designed by a consortium of the American Raytheon Technologies Corporation and the Norwegian group Kongsberg. The system includes launchers and Raytheon AN / MPQ-64F1 Sentinel radars from the Raytheon and Kongsberg consortium.
Raytheon is responsible for supplying its AIM-120 AMRAAM medium-range air-to-air missiles for this system, and Kongsberg supplies the launchers.
Each mobile launcher has six containers with anti-aircraft missiles. NASAMS system is either in service or about to be delivered to 12 countries.
The firing range of the NASAMS II model using AIM-120C AMRAAM missiles is up to 25 km, and the altitude range is up to 14-15 km.
