On December 19, at 23:00 Kyiv time, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) launched a large-scale Operation Hawkeye Strike against ISIS militants in Syria.

The decision was made by order of the Commander-in-Chief.

According to the command, US forces struck more than 70 targets in central Syria.

The strike groups used fighter jets, attack helicopters and artillery. The Jordanian Air Force also joined the operation and supported the allied forces.

More than 100 precision-guided munitions were used during the operation. As for the main targets, ISIS infrastructure facilities, weapons depots and other strategic positions of terrorists were identified.

“This operation is critical to preventing terrorist plots and attacks against US territory,” said CENTCOM Commander Admiral Brad Cooper.

The operation was a response to the December 13 attack, when militants attacked American and Syrian forces. In response, the United States and its allies have conducted 10 operations in Syria and Iraq, killing or detaining 23 militants.
