The U.S. State Department has used the emergency provision of the AECA law to urgently approve the sale of 12,000 BLU-110A/B aerial bombs to Israel.
The U.S. Department of War reported this.
The estimated value of the deal is $151.8 million. The military aid package includes 1,000-pound (over 450 kg) general-purpose high-explosive bomb bodies and related services.
To fulfill the order quickly, the United States will use its own stockpiles and launch additional production at facilities in Garland, Texas, and at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant (MCAAP) in Oklahoma.
The use of the special procedure allows the U.S. government to transfer weapons while bypassing standard congressional review timelines due to the urgent needs of an ally.
The BLU-110A/B munition belongs to the Mark 83 family of free-fall high-explosive bombs. The A/B modification features a heat-resistant coating on the bomb body designed to prevent premature detonation of the explosive in the event of a fire on a runway or at a technical facility. These bomb bodies are often fitted with JDAM guidance kits, converting them into GBU-32 precision-guided bombs.
The Israeli Air Force has integrated the BLU-110A/B into its strike aircraft arsenal. The main carriers are F-16 fighters in the Barak and Sufa variants, as well as F-15 fighters in the Baz and Ra’am versions.
Militarnyi previously reported that the Israel Defense Forces published a video showing the destruction of three ballistic missile launchers in western Iran.
