The Senate Armed Services Committee has approved a draft national defense bill that allocates $500 million in military aid to Ukraine for fiscal year 2026, Reuters reported.
The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) is an annual bill that sets funding levels and authorizes U.S. military policy.
It ensures that the armed forces have the necessary resources to carry out operations.
The NDAA, passed by the Senate Armed Services Committee in a 26–1 vote on July 9, includes a provision to extend the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) through 2028.
It also increases USAI funding from $300 million in 2025 to $500 million in 2026.
The bill still needs to pass both chambers of Congress. The House of Representatives version maintains Ukraine aid at $300 million. The final figure will be determined in negotiations between the House and Senate.
In addition, according to Reuters, U.S. President Donald Trump may approve the transfer of weapons to Ukraine from existing U.S. stockpiles for the first time since returning to office.
The potential aid package, valued at about $300 million, could include Patriot interceptor missiles and medium-range offensive weapons. However, no final decision has been made on the specific systems to be included.
