The United States Army has signed a new agreement with BAE Systems to produce 240 more tracked armored vehicles in the AMPV family.
The Defence Blog reported the contract, valued at $139.6 million, expands previous agreements and allows BAE Systems to continue mass production at its York, Pennsylvania, plant.
The military expects to receive the new vehicles by the end of May 2028.
The order covers five main versions: command, sanitary, medical evacuation, mortar, and general transport.
The new batch will give American armored brigades more flexible and technologically compatible support on the battlefield.
According to the Pentagon, total AMPV purchases have already exceeded $2.2 billion. The transition to the new family of vehicles is considered a key part of modernizing the Army’s armored units.
In total, the US Army plans to receive 2,907 AMPV vehicles across five versions, including:
The first AMPVs entered service in 2022, and the program moved to full-scale production in 2025.
To date, the US military has received more than 500 vehicles. Deliveries are planned for fiscal years 2025, 2026, and 2027, with production increasing from 81 vehicles in 2025 to 122 in 2026 and 2027.
Militarnyi previously reported that BAE Systems and Forterra have partnered to develop an autonomous AMPV for the US Army.
