The US is increasing its troop presence near Iran while preparing for negotiations with Iran.
This is reported by The Wall Street Journal.
Currently, the US is actively deploying aircraft to the Middle East, where ground forces are also expected to be deployed.
Overall, according to the publication, the US will deploy approximately 1,500–2,000 soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division in the near future.
This is being done as a precautionary measure in case the negotiations, expected to take place in Pakistan, fail.
At the same time, the US president threatened Iran with new strikes if Tehran fails to comply with the peace agreement.
According to Trump, all American ships, aircraft, and military personnel will remain around Iran until a ‘real’ agreement is fully implemented.
As previously reported, on April 8, the US and Iran agreed to a two-week ceasefire and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz to civilian shipping.
The US president announced the ceasefire with Tehran an hour and a half before the deadline he had set for unblocking the strait expired.
According to Trump, the United States has achieved its military objectives in this operation and is ready to work toward a long-term peace agreement with Iran.
Earlier, Militarnyi reported that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps begun allowing ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz only for a fee and within the range of its own weapons.
A few hours after the ceasefire was supposed to open the Strait of Hormuz, the IRGC issued an official directive requiring all vessels to use two corridors near Larak Island to avoid sea mines.
