The United States is handing over the M777 towed 155-mm howitzers to Ukraine.
The U.S. Department of Defense reported about this.
The U.S. Department of Defense has released several photos showing the preparation for sending the M777 towed 155-mm howitzers to Ukraine.
Weapons from the United States are coming to Ukraine to help the Defense Forces in the fight against Russian invaders.
“Marines are preparing the M777 towed 155 mm howitzers for shipment, along with other supplies and munitions, as part of U.S. security assistance to Ukraine,” the Pentagon said in its statement.
Previously, the United States showed the process of loading the howitzers for Ukraine onto a U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III aircraft at the Reserve Air Base in California.
In total, the number of transferred M777 howitzers from the United States will reach 90 units.
According to the Pentagon official, as of early May, at least 81 of the 90 howitzers were already at the disposal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Previously, Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, released photos that show that the Ukrainian Army started fielding the recently arrived weapons. Ukrainian artillerymen were mastering American M777 howitzers.
Artillerymen are also already using howitzers at the front.
М777 is a 155-mm caliber howitzer with manual loading and firing rate of up to five rounds per minute. Depending on the type of projectile used, the howitzer has a firing range from 24 to 30 kilometers.
