The United States is interested in purchasing drones produced in Ukraine, while Kyiv is seeking to acquire other weapons from American manufacturers.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky shared this in an interview with Newsmax TV.

He mentioned that Ukraine wants to buy weapons from the United States to help build an “air shield.” “This is mutually beneficial cooperation,” Zelensky said, noting that the U.S. has expressed interest in Ukrainian-made drones.

“There are many drones that only we have. And we are discussing this with President Trump. I told him that I really want to buy things from you that only you have. And he replied that America wants to buy Ukrainian drones… I really want America to help us protect our skies. This is very important,” he said.

Ukraine has become one of the leading countries globally in the mass production and development of military drones.

Ukrainian UAVs are not limited to reconnaissance or strike roles — they include modular systems with various capabilities, ranging from small copters to jet-powered attack drones and uncrewed maritime vehicles.

With support from the state and active involvement from private companies, Ukraine is scaling up UAV production at a pace described as unprecedented globally.

Today, more than 200 Ukrainian firms are involved in drone manufacturing, with many designs shaped by direct combat experience.

Drones are constantly evolving, with improvements in resistance to electronic warfare, enhanced optics, and improved communications.

At the same time, Ukraine is looking to acquire U.S.-made air defense systems capable of intercepting ballistic missiles, including systems like THAAD.

Previously, it was reported that the United States is ready to send additional Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine. These would be funded by European Union countries, with the full cost covered by EU partners. Germany, in particular, has agreed to finance the purchase of Patriot batteries.
