The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale of UH-60M Black Hawk Helicopters and related equipment for an estimated cost of $1.95 billion to the Government of Greece.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency reported on this.

The Government of Greece has requested to purchase 35 UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters, 80 T700-GE 701D engines, 44 AN/AAR-57 Common Missile Warning Systems (CMWS), and 85 H-764U Embedded Global Position Systems with Inertial Navigation (EGI).

Greece also intends to purchase radio systems, laser detecting sets, identification friend or foe (IFF) transponders, encryption devices, and other necessary equipment.

Black Hawk helicopters are to be armed with M134 Minigun and M240 machine guns.

In addition, it is planned to purchase simulators for pilots and ground crews, helmets and tools.

The deal includes personnel training, U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services, along with other related elements of logistics and program support.

“This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by helping to improve the security of a NATO Ally, which is an important partner for political stability and economic progress in Europe,” the statement outlines.

The principal contractor will be Sikorsky, a Lockheed Martin Company, Stratford, CT.

Implementation of this proposed sale will require approximately 15 U.S. Government and 15 contractor representatives to travel to Greece for an extended time period.

They will deal with equipment de-processing/fielding, system checkout, training, and technical and logistics support.

Previously, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Romania received the first four Polish-made S-70M Black Hawk helicopters.
