On Monday, the US began withdrawing troops from its main base in the province of Hasakah in Syria, which is controlled by Kurdish forces.
The start of the process was reported by AFP, citing a representative of the Kurdish forces, an official in the Syrian government, and a diplomatic source, according to Arab News.
The interlocutors noted that the US military presence at facilities in Syria will be completely terminated in the near future. According to sources, the timeline for completing the withdrawal of troops varies from 20 days to one month.
A convoy of dozens of trucks was spotted on the road connecting the Kasrak base with the Iraqi border. The vehicles were transporting armored vehicles and prefabricated structures that were previously used to house personnel and equipment.
In addition to the facility in Kasrak, US forces have already left two other bases in the past two weeks. In particular, military units were withdrawn from Al-Tanf in the southeast of the country and Shadadi, located in the northeast.
The US military presence in these areas provided stability and support to local Kurdish forces in their fight against militants.
Syrian government officials have confirmed that once the current phase of withdrawal is complete, there will be no US soldiers left at military bases. This decision marks the end of a long period of direct involvement by US ground forces in operations on Syrian territory.
