The US Army has published a request for information (RFI) regarding industry involvement in the commercial modification program for UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters.
The RFI document, published on sam.gov (the official US government contract management system) on February 20, 2026, is part of market research prior to the formation of a future procurement strategy.
It involves the modernization of 12 to 24 aircraft per year through overhaul and upgrade of key systems.
The initiative focuses on the repair and manufacturing capabilities of enterprises, rather than on the creation of new solutions or platforms.
During an industry event in Huntsville, Army representatives announced the expected delivery rates for the upgraded UH-60Ms.
The US military is not imposing specific technical approaches, relying on proposals from industry.
The draft technical description of the work includes inspection of the machines, structural repairs, repainting, maintenance, and flight tests.
The overhaul covers critical components, including engines, transmissions, rotor blades, and hydraulic systems.
Separately, there are plans to integrate existing upgrade packages, including Common Infrared Countermeasure and Blue Force Tracker 2.
The UH-60M Black Hawk remains the US Army’s primary multi-role helicopter for transport, assault, medical, and command missions.
The commercial modification model is seen as a way to maintain the fleet’s combat readiness and optimize operating costs.
As a reminder, the US recently ordered Sikorsky to upgrade the Black Hawk with pylons for drones.
