The US State Department approved the emergency sale of three additional HIMARS systems to Ukraine.
Recently, the Ukrainian government asked to purchase three High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems.
The estimated total cost is $30 million, which will be funded by the German government on behalf of Ukraine.
The Secretary of State has identified and provided a detailed justification that there is an emergency that requires the immediate sale of HIMARS.
“There is an emergency that requires the immediate sale of necessary weapons to Ukraine,” the Secretary of State said.
All three systems will come to Ukraine from the reserves of the US Army.
“This proposed sale will support the foreign policy goals and national security objectives of the United States by enhancing Ukraine’s ability to defend itself and respond to continued Russian aggression,” the United States noted.
Sales will not require the appointment of any additional representatives of the US government or contractors to Ukraine.
Earlier, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, on a working visit to Washington, said that the supply of systems would take place in cooperation with the United States.
The HIMARS launcher can be used as a multiple launch rocket system with precision munitions of varying range.
The system is also capable of using an operational tactical missile system to launch a M57 ATACMS short-range ballistic missile at a distance of up to 300 km.
As previously reported, on May 10, at the site of the defeat of the occupiers’ oil depot in Rovenky, the M74 submunitions that are in the ATACMS warhead have been found.
