On July 22, US President Joe Biden signed a decree on providing a new military aid package to Ukraine within the framework of his presidential powers.
This is stated in an official statement on the White House website.
This aid package includes a tranche of $175 million for military assistance, including military training of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In total, Washington has allocated $270 million for Ukraine under two programs. John Kirby, the White House National Security Council’s coordinator for strategic communications, told reporters this during a conference call on July 22.
According to Kirby, Ukraine will receive:
Kirby emphasized that Ukrainians use Western weapons very efficiently. In particular, this goes for HIMARS systems, which have already changed the situation on the battlefield.
The United States is ready to continue providing military aid to Ukraine as long as it’s necessary, while Russia continues to shell residential buildings and shopping centers, killing innocent civilians, Kirby stressed.
As previously reported, the Pentagon is conducting research on the prospect of supplying Ukraine with fighter jets.
John Kirby noted that deliveries will not happen soon, because of the complexity of operation and maintenance.
Thus, the Pentagon confirmed the words of the Chief of Staff of the US Air Force General Charles Brown, who said that the Americans were exploring options for jets that could be handed over to Ukrainians.
European-made fighters (SAAB Gripen, Eurofighter Typhoon, and Dassault Rafale) are among the possible options, in addition to US-made ones (F-16, F-18, F-15).
Earlier, a group of senators appealed to the Pentagon to include fourth-generation fighters and training costs for Ukrainian aviators in military assistance packages for Ukraine.
