General Dynamics is developing a new generation main battle tank for the U.S. Army.
This was reported in the press release of the American company.
The project to create a new combat vehicle was named AbramsX.
The new tank will be more modern than the Abrams M1A2, which is in service with the US Army today. The combat vehicle will have a reduced weight to improve mobility and transportability.
Also, AbramsX will receive a new hybrid power unit, which is capable of providing the same range that now has M1A2, but at the same time spending 50 percent less fuel.
Such an engine will give new combat vehicles the ability to low-noise movement at low speeds, so the tank crew will be able to observe the battlefield at closer distances: the sound of the working engine will not unmask the tank.
The new machine will be an important stage in the implementation of the US Army plans to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
The American company says that the AbramsX will be designed for a smaller crew compared to the M1A2, but the number of people has not yet been specified.
On the presented renders of General Dynamics, there are several cameras installed around the perimeter of the case. Supposedly, they should provide a panoramic view for the crew.
The AbramsX tank project is positioned as a transitional stage between Abrams M1A2 SEPv3 and SEPv4 to the next generation tank of the US Army.
Due to artificial intelligence, the machine will be able to work in an unmanned version. On the battlefield, the tank will be combined into a single network with other vehicles. Overall, the AbramsX will have increased survivability and firepower.
Currently, the United States military is testing an updated version of the Abrams M1A2 SEPv4 tank at the Yuma training ground.
