The United States has informed NATO allies that it intends to stop participating in the planning of future military exercises in Europe.

This was reported by the Swedish publication Expressen, citing its sources.

At the same time, the NATO exercises already planned for 2025, in which the United States plays an important role, will not be affected, the publication claims.

According to the publication’s sources, these are the exercises that are currently on the drawing board, i.e., in the near future.

The publication notes that such a decision may be related to US plans to reduce military spending in Europe and direct it to other areas, in particular to the Indo-Pacific region to counter China.

As a result, Expressen concludes, Europe will have to plan exercises without US participation or with only small US units.

At the same time, according to The Telegraph, the US President is allegedly considering withdrawing US troops from Germany and redeploying them to Hungary.

The US president, who has repeatedly warned that Europe should invest more in its defense capabilities, is increasingly frustrated that the continent is “pushing for war,” sources close to the Trump administration say.

About 160,000 U.S. troops are stationed outside the United States, the vast majority of them in Germany.

“While no specific announcements are expected, the U.S. military is always considering the possibility of redeploying troops around the world to best meet current threats to our interests,” commented Brian Hughes, spokesman for the U.S. National Security Council.

During his first term, Trump ordered the withdrawal of almost 12,000 troops from Germany, where the United States has several large military facilities, including Ramstein Air Base, the headquarters of the US European Command. But this move was stopped by Joe Biden amid widespread criticism from Congress.

Trump has also recently questioned the commitment to protect NATO member states and Japan amid rising tensions in Europe and Asia.
