Expanded training has begun under the training program conducted by the Americans for the Ukrainian military in Germany.

This was stated by General Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States, writes The Washington Post.

According to him, the training began on Sunday at the Grafenwoehr Training Area in Germany and will last five to six weeks.

About 500 Ukrainian soldiers as part of the units will undergo a military training program.

“We want the Ukrainians to have a capability to successfully defend their country,” Milley said.

Germany has a complete set of weapons and equipment that are needed for such training.

The American General plans to spend a week in Europe, meet with European colleagues, review the training process, observe the logistics hubs through which weapons are supplied to Ukraine, and join a planning conference, in which NATO allies and the Ukrainian military will take part.

On Friday, he and U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin will attend a meeting of the Ukraine Contact Group.

In the expanded program of the Ukrainian military, American instructors will teach more complex tactics of combat, including coordination of maneuvers of infantry units in cooperation with artillery support.

The training will begin with the theoretical part and work in small groups with the involvement of tanks, artillery and combat vehicles, and will gradually expand to larger units. At the final stage, it will develop into a comprehensive training as part of the battalion.

These exercises play an important role in preparing for further counter-offensive actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the liberation of territories from Russian occupiers.

Since the beginning of the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the United States has already trained 3,100 Ukrainian troops. For the most part their training was held in small groups using certain weapons systems, in particular artillery transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
