Poland’s Ministry of State Assets has allocated PLN 3 billion ($730 million) to finance defense companies related to developing a domestic air defense system.
Defence24 reported on this.
The recipients of the funds are companies participating in the Narew Air Defense System program.
The allocated investments should not only ensure production but also create a long-term base for system maintenance, further modernization, and future programs.
PIT-RADWAR S.A. will receive the largest amount, over PLN 1.72 billion (USD 420 million). The money will be used to build a new research and production facility to manufacture radars, fire command and control systems, fire support equipment, and missile components.
Jelcz sp. z o.o. will receive PLN 756 million ($185 million). It produces vehicles for air defense systems, radars, launchers, and control machines.
The investment will expand the company’s capacity to produce about 1,600 vehicles annually. As part of the Narew program, this includes iLauncher launchers, P-19PL and Sajna radars.
Zakłady Mechaniczne Tarnów S.A. will receive almost PLN 310 million ($76 million) to purchase modern equipment, build new workshops, laboratories, and R&D facilities.
This will help to establish the production of components for the Narew system and remotely controlled combat modules ZSMU A3 and A3B.
WZU S.A. plants will receive PLN 198.4 million ($49 million). The investment will allow them to enter the international supply chain of components for Narew systems, as well as the British CAMM and CAMM-ER missile systems.
The funding is aimed at strengthening the production capabilities of the Polish defense industry and creating a technological base for future air defense programs.
Narew is a Polish short-range air defense missile system designed to destroy airplanes, helicopters, and cruise missiles.
The system is capable of simultaneously intercepting several air targets using CAMM missiles.
In the version with CAMM-ER missiles equipped with an active radar guidance system, Narew can engage targets at a distance of up to 45 km and at an altitude of about 20 km.
The primary means of detection is the Sajna radar with an active phased array antenna.
In addition, each launcher has its own electro-optical station on the mast, allowing for passive target surveillance and tracking without radar.
The system consists of three self-propelled eight-round iLauncher launchers, three transport and reloading vehicles, a radar station, and a command post.
For the Polish contract, all launchers and auxiliary equipment, with the exception of the radar and command post, will be placed on the chassis of the Polish-made Jelcz P882.57 army truck.
