In 2025, the Norwegian government plans to provide Ukraine with military assistance worth more than €2 billion.
The Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umierov announced this.
He said that he had met with Norwegian Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram as part of a meeting of the Contact Group in the Ramstein format. They discussed the priority areas for using this assistance.
“In 2025, Norway will provide the largest military aid in its history – more than €2 billion to Ukraine,” the statement said.
Umierov emphasized that those agreements would bring cooperation between the two countries “to a new level.” Special attention was paid to the critical area for Ukraine – strengthening air defense.
In addition, Norway intends to continue investing in Ukraine’s defense industry and joint projects, including ammunition production.
During the meeting, Umierov and Gram also discussed a new mechanism of cooperation, the “Norwegian model,” which will complement the already successful “Danish model” and strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
At the Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting at Ramstein Air Base on January 9, the Norwegian Defense Minister announced the allocation of about €60 million (NOK 700 million) for the purchase of drones for Ukraine.
The Norwegian defense minister also emphasized the importance of various coalitions that serve to provide support for Ukraine in both short and long term.
“Together with our allies, we will continue our political, military and economic support for Ukraine’s defense efforts,” the German Defense Minister emphasized.
In December 2024, Norway allocated a new €230 million defense aid package aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s Navy.
The assistance includes, among other things, the transfer of equipment directly from the Norwegian Armed Forces, as well as the purchase of military equipment from industry for further transfer.
