The Ukrainian company Ukrspecsystems in the UK has received a place at the airfield for its drones and is building a separate strip for UAVs.
Rory Chamberlain, director of UKRSPECSYSTEMS UK, shared this with Militarnyi.
The company has set a goal to scale the best Ukrainian achievements in the field of UAVs in the UK.
For this purpose, the city of Mildenhall was chosen, which is also home to the UK Air Force airbase.
The facility is scheduled to be commissioned early next year, and production will begin.
A dedicated drone runway is a testing ground for development. Without it, the manufacturer is constantly limited in testing, dependent on approvals, unable to conduct secret or dangerous experiments, and unable to quickly improve models.
The strip will allow the company to check the operation of autopilots, sensors, and navigation systems; test the behavior of UAVs in windy conditions, at high altitude, or in the event of communication loss; and do so without risk to civil aviation.
Earlier, it was announced that Ukrspecsystems is investing £200 million ($250 million) in a new plant in Mildenhall.
The investment will include an 11,000 m² facility and a test-and-training center in Elmsett, Suffolk.
Ukrspecsystems is primarily known for its PD-2, SHARK/SHARK-M, and compact Mini Shark reconnaissance UAVs.
Their drones are used for reconnaissance, fire control, and operations in the face of powerful electronic warfare. In addition to drones, the company creates optoelectronic systems, communications equipment, and ground control stations.
Ukrspecsystems is also launching a UAS Components store with components for other unmanned systems developers.
