Ukrainian volunteers are working on the creation of a heavy IFV from a trophy Т-62 tank.
This was told by Roman Balan, who works at the Serhii Prytula charity organization.
Volunteers also plan to install a turret with a 30mm gun, which was removed from the Russian infantry fighting vehicle.
Nevertheless, they say that in the case of a 30mm gun installation, the landing compartment is rather conditional.
“The next version will be just for the landing, the transport of the “last kilometer” in order to deliver the squad as safely as possible,” said the volunteer involved in the project.
It is worth noting that a similar modification of the T-62 is also being developed in Algeria.
The Algerian army began to turn Т-62 tanks into tank support vehicles in 2021.
The turrets with the 2А20 115mm gun were replaced by the Berezhok combat modules, similar to those installed on the BMP-2M.
As a result, a sample of equipment capable of destroying manpower was obtained, including a 2А42 30mm gun, an AG-30 30mm automatic grenade launcher, and a 7.62mm machine gun. To combat armored vehicles, the turret has anti-tank guided missiles.
An experimental Ukrainian BMPT Strazh Tank Support Fighting Vehicle on the chassis of the Т-64 tank was presented in Ukraine in 2017.
BMPT Strazh is equipped with the Duplet combat module. Combat power is provided by two ZTM-2 30mm guns, two twin КМ-7,62 machine guns, a AG-17 30mm automatic grenade launcher, and the Barrier missile system with four launchers.
The module also has six 81mm installations for firing smoke grenades Tucha.
