Soldiers of the Special Operations Forces coordinated a missile strike against a Russian Buk-M1 air defense system.

The press service of the SOf of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on this.

During reconnaissance operations in one of the areas, operators of the 3rd separate regiment of the Special Operations Forces discovered an enemy Buk-M1 air defense missile system preparing to launch missiles.

The SOF transmitted the coordinates of the enemy target to an artillery unit of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, after which it was hit.

“The Buk-M1 did not have time to fire a single missile – it was promptly destroyed,” the statement says.

The damaged air defense system was deployed in a firing position and ready to intercept air targets but failed to detect the Ukrainian reconnaissance drone.

Destruction of Russian air defense systems

In April, the Ukrainian Defense Forces actively published information about the destruction of Russian air defense systems, which may indicate that they are intensifying their efforts to knock out enemy air defense systems.

In particular, this month alone, it was reported that a Buk-M2 launcher, a transport and launch vehicle, and a radar station were destroyed, along with two Buk-M1 launchers and two other launchers of an unknown model that were hit.

Currently, most of the destroyed anti-aircraft systems are neutralized by reconnaissance drones and the HIMARS rocket system. However, FPV drones and loitering munitions have become more frequently included in this sample.

One of the most striking examples of the use of drones is the destruction of a Russian radar and a Buk-M2 launcher by a special SSU unit using Ukrainian loitering munition.

Previously, Ukraine has presented a new model of loitering munition that can strike targets at an operational and tactical depth of 100+ kilometers.

In the future, the new development should become a means of defeating targets both on the ground and in the sky due to its speed and powerful warhead.
