Ukrainian mortar teams have undergone training in Lithuania.
The Lithuanian Armed Forces reported about this.
The forces have been trained to use 60 mm mortars and are now returning to the battlefield to apply their skills fighting the Russian invaders.
In skilled hands, this weapon is an effective means of fire support for infantry during assaults and other military operations.
The statement reads that mortars show great effectiveness both in urban conditions and on rugged terrain.
The Lithuanian Armed Forces add that they will soon commence training a new group of Ukrainian mortar teams.
As previously reported, Lithuania has decided to help strengthen the air defense of Ukraine by handing over L70 anti-aircraft guns produced by the Bofors company. The country will also continue training Ukrainian soldiers, as well as restoration and repair of military equipment for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
On December 23, the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania unanimously adopted an amendment to the resolution regarding deployment of the Lithuanian armed forces in international operations, which had been urgently introduced by the President of the Republic of Lithuania at the proposal of the Ministry of National Defence and the Ministry of Foreign affairs.
This regards the increase of Lithuania’s support for the training of the Ukrainian military.
The resolution sets the legal basis and the maximum number of military and civilian personnel that can be attached to the new EU Military Assistance Mission Ukraine (EUMAM Ukraine) and international Operation Interflex for training Ukrainian military personnel in the United Kingdom.
Last year, it became known that the Armed Forces of Ukraine used US-made M224 60-mm mortars in battles.
The Ukrainian servicemen have also received Bulgarian 60-mm M60CMA mortars.
