A Presidential Brigade has begun using FPV drones equipped with a double-barreled shotgun to intercept Russian Mavic drones.
The brigade shared a video of the weapon on its official Facebook page.
According to the brigade, the technical innovation was introduced by engineers of the 4th Mechanized Battalion. It allows it to effectively intercept enemy drones over the contact line.
The commander of the 4th Mechanized Battalion’s UAV platoon, call sign “Compass,” stated that this tool is crucial, as the biggest threat to infantry on the front line is not FPV drones, but quadcopters carrying munitions.
To create the interceptor drone, the military adapted the LUCKY STRIKE FPV bomber and installed two guns specially designed for this task.
According to the video, the design of the guns provides recoil compensation, which increases the accuracy of the drone’s shooting.
According to the commander of the “Filin” unit, there is nothing complicated about flying such a drone, but you need to have a good reaction and know when to shoot.
This is not the first unit to successfully use such drones. In January 2025, it was reported that drone operators from the 2nd Mechanized Battalion of the 30th Separate Mechanized Brigade had destroyed more than 20 Russian drones using a drone equipped with a shotgun.
This is also not the first instance of the brigade’s military using firearms on FPV drones. In September 2024, the Presidential Brigade’s Bulava Unmanned Aircraft Strike Systems unit successfully conducted firing tests with a Queen Hornets drone, which was fitted with a Bulspike-AP hand-held anti-personnel grenade launcher.
The developers noted that the drone with the new equipment will be able to work on targets at a distance of more than 5 kilometers, which should open up new opportunities for the military.
“We can’t provide any other details yet, except that we will continue to work in this direction together with Bulava to launch mass production to help our military,” the company said.
In November 2024, the Bulava military unit used an FPV drone armed with an AK-74 to repel an assault by Russian troops.
