An anti-aircraft unit of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces has shot down a Russian Su-25 attack aircraft in the Donetsk region.

The press service of the command of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces reports.

A pair of Russian Su-25s took off to strike the ground units of the Defense Forces of UKraine in the Donetsk region, but one of these attack aircraft was shot down by the Ukrainian military.

The video allows us to assume that the pilot of the plane has successfully ejected.

Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the analytical portal Oryx has been reliably documenting the loss or damage of 29 Su-25 attack aircraft. Today’s aircraft should become the 30th on that list.

On March 17, Ukrainian soldiers of the 10th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade “Edelweiss” shot down a Russian combat aircraft near the village of Berestove, in the Bakhmut district.

According to the servicemen, the Russian jet aircraft was struck with the Polish-made Piorun MANPADS.

Su-25

A Soviet-era single-site Su-25 armored attack aircraft is designed to provide air support in the combat zone day and night under conditions of the target visibility. This jet aircraft was developed in the 1970s.

Su-25 is a highly protected combat aircraft. Vital aircraft systems are duplicated and protected. Special attention was paid to the protection of critical components and elements. such as the cockpit and the fuel system.

The main weapons of the jet aircraft are free-fall bombs and S-8, S-13, S-24 and S-25 unguided missiles, with which the aircraft can inflict direct damage on ground forces.

In 2001, the Russian Federation launched a program to modernize the Su-25 into an improved version of the Su-25SM attack aircraft. The new model aircraft has improved combat capabilities.

The combat modes of Su-25SM allow using the guided air-surface missiles from horizontal flight by deploying accurate software-corrected tracking of the target.
