The Defense Forces are inflicting casualties on the Russian invasion forces, using the entire arsenal of weapons available.
Vladyslav, Deputy Commander of the Air Assault Unit of the 95th Air Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, talked about the peculiarities of the SPG-9M Kopyo tripod-mounted man-portable recoilless gun crews during hostilities with the Russian invaders.
The Command of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces reported on the combat work of the servicemen.
“SPG crews disabled lightly armored vehicles, broke trenches with infantry, and even hit the enemy’s company command posts,” shared the Deputy Commander of the Unit of the 95th Brigade of the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces.
“If the crew is coordinated and able to work under the commander providing proper correction of the firing position, this type of collective weapon works flawlessly,” the officer said.
In particular, the SPG crews of his unit have disabled the light armored vehicles of the enemy: BTR-80, BTR-82, and BMP-3, and broke the trenches with the invader infantry.
There was even a case when, from a distance of 6 kilometers, the Ukrainian paratroopers have completely smashed the enemy’s company command post.
“If SPG-9M Kopyo is used with the latest tactics and knowledge about this weapon, then impossible things can be done,” the paratrooper emphasized.
The SPG-9 Kopyo tripod-mounted man-portable recoilless gun is designed to destroy tanks, self-propelled artillery installations, and other armored targets, as well as to destroy the enemy’s manpower and firepower.
The 73 mm 2A28 Grom low-pressure gun was created on the basis of SPG-9M. It became part of the armament system of the Soviet BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicle.
SPG-9 is in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard, and the State Border Service, where it has been actively used since the beginning of countering Russian aggression in Donbas.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation in February 2022, various Defense Forces units were armed with such grenade launchers. Bulgarian SPG-9 “Warrior” anti-tank grenade launchers are now in service of the Ukrainian servicemen.
