The drones of the 10th Mountain Assault Brigade destroyed a Russian Zoopark-1 counter-battery radar in the Luhansk region.

Footage of the destruction was posted on the military’s social media.

The operators of the FPV drones of the 109th separate battalion of the 10th Mountain Assault Brigade discovered a camouflaged enemy 1L219M counter-battery radar, which was used by the invaders to search for Ukrainian artillery and adjust their own.

“This enemy system was a serious threat to our troops. Its destruction is a big step towards victory, which will significantly weaken the enemy and strengthen our positions,” the brigade’s soldiers say.

The vehicle received three hits on the radar, after which the operators began to hit the armored body. The pilots sent one of the drones directly into the open hatch, which led to a fire and burnout from the inside.

The destruction of this complex is a rather rare event, as Russia has a small number of these machines, and their search is complicated due to their location at a considerable distance behind the front line.

In total, since the beginning of the invasion, the Defense Forces have destroyed no more than ten 1L219M radars and about 15 units of Zoopark-1M, a further development of the model on a new chassis.

Due to their remote location, the main means of defeating such systems until recently were high-precision missile systems such as HIMARS, which operated on the targeting of reconnaissance drones. However, with the development of FPV copters, a significant share of combat work in the enemy’s near rear has been assigned to drones.

Zoopark-1

Zoopark-1 is a Russian reconnaissance and fire control radar system. It is designed for reconnaissance and fire detection of ground artillery systems: cannon artillery and MLRS.

The complex determines the positions of artillery using radar, detecting the flight path of various ammunition during firing. The system can also be used to adjust the fire of its own artillery.

The radar station is mounted on the chassis of the MT-LBU multipurpose tracked platform. The radar itself has a phased array antenna capable of detecting up to 70 positions per minute and simultaneously tracking up to four targets.

The manufacturer claims that the radar system is capable of detecting the positions of 120mm mortars at a distance of up to 17 kilometers, 105mm and 155mm howitzers at a distance of up to 12 kilometers, and launches from multiple rocket launchers such as BM-21 Grad and BM-27 Uragan at a distance of up to 40-45 kilometers.
