The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine named three main priorities for the development of Ukrainian military unmanned ground vehicles.
Volodymyr Havrylov, Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, told about it in a comment for the “Industrial Portal.”
Dialogue took place during one of the events dedicated to the development of unmanned ground vehicles in Ukraine.
According to Havrylov, the first priority was the creation of unmanned platforms for logistics. They should work at the front in the close-in zone. In those places where there is close contact between the Ukrainian military and the enemy.
Such ground drones will allow evacuating wounded or delivering ammunition and provisions to hard-to-reach Ukrainian positions, the path to which is swept by Russian invaders.
The second priority is the development of combat drones, which will be equipped with light weapons systems. These can be automatic grenade launchers, machine guns, or anti-tank weapons that will be attached to the hull. The operator will control them, and he will choose which targets to hit.
One of the important aspects of the use of such drones is the possibility of ambush operations, since groundwork with a low profile will be difficult to detect and it will be able to hit targets from bushes or another shelter.
The third direction of development for ground drones, according to General Havrylov, will be stationary systems with machine guns for combat use or optical sensors for reconnaissance and surveillance. Such means can be set at certain points and remotely controlled by the operator.
Their disadvantage is their steady position, but such a system can be used well during the preparation of sabotage or integrated into defensive lines, as the media noted.
The Deputy Minister of Defense also emphasized that ground robotic platforms on the battlefield will save the lives and health of the Ukrainian military. They will also contribute to the effective defeat of the enemy’s positions.
The priority of the development of these platforms is worked out by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which outline their wishes and needs for such equipment. The military also gets feedback from developers on the use of its equipment.
Recall that the special forces of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine handed over a serial batch of RATEL UGVs. They are designed to destroy enemy positions and armored vehicles, to which the operator should direct this drone.
