The Ukrainian soldiers have made a DIY ground-based multiple rocket launcher from the American LAU-131 Hydra 70 rocket launcher.
A video of the operation of such MLRS by the Defense Forces of Ukraine was published on social media.
The military installed a rocket launcher in the aft part of the SUV.
The LAU-131 rocket launcher is designed to equip combat aircraft and attack helicopters.
These units have 7 launch tubes for the launch of Hydra 70 70mm unguided rockets, which are supplied to Ukraine within the framework of military assistance from partner countries.
Earlier, the launchers for Hydra 70 rockets have been spotted on Ukrainian Su-25 attack aircraft, as well as Mi-24 and Mi-8 helicopters, which are used to strike Russian ground targets on the front line.
The launch of these American rockets is carried out by Ukrainian pilots in the pitch-up mode: the pilot, when approaching the contact line, pulls the nose of the aircraft or helicopter up and makes a launch, in which case the rockets fly along the hinged trajectory.
The U.S. government announced the transfer of the Hydra 70 unguided rocket variant to Ukraine in May 2023 as part of a $300 million aid package.
Hydra 70 multi-platform rocket
Already in the middle of summer 2023, they were spotted in the hands of the Ukrainian military. These rockets were first demonstrated in a video posted in August 2023. In the footage, the pilot loads a 70mm aviation unguided rocket into a M261 19-round launcher. The unit is mounted on a hardpoint of a Mi-24V helicopter handed over by the Czech Republic.
Now, judging by the recently published video, it was decided to launch the missiles from a ground-based multiple launch rocket system, which was created on the basis of one of the versions of the LAU-131 aviation launcher.
The military of the Ukrainian Defense Forces also uses mobile ground systems with APKWS missiles, which are a guided version of the Hydra 70 rocket.
