Ukrainian anti-aircraft drone operators intercepted two Russian Forpost-R operational-tactical drones that were reportedly conducting strike missions with suspended aerial munitions.
Footage of the interceptions was published by Ukrainian activist Serhii Sternenko.
The Adler unit claimed responsibility for shooting down the two drones and shared video showing aircraft-type anti-aircraft drones damaging the tails of the Forposts.
In both cases, the strikes appeared to hit the tail sections, which could have destabilized the drones and caused them to crash. However, no visual confirmation of the crashes was provided.
The location of the interceptions was not disclosed. Russian forces are known to frequently use Forpost drones along the front line in the Sumy region.
The drones shown in the video were carrying KAB-20 guided aerial bombs, suggesting they were on strike missions at the time. Each drone carried two bombs and was intercepted before delivering the payload to Ukrainian positions.
KAB-20 is a lightweight, high-precision aerial bomb developed for unmanned platforms. It weighs about 21 kg and comes in both high-explosive fragmentation and thermobaric variants. Guidance systems vary by model and include satellite navigation or laser targeting from the drone itself.
In addition to combat roles, Forpost-R is used for high-altitude reconnaissance within a 250 km range. It can fly at altitudes up to 6,000 meters, though most surveillance missions are carried out at around 3,000 meters to avoid short-range air defenses while maintaining observation capability.
Forpost-R is a Russian-made licensed version of the Israeli IAI Searcher UAV. Developed in 2019, the updated model features a higher degree of localization and improved flight characteristics.
