For some time, the Ukrainian military has discovered and exploited a vulnerability in Russian Molniya one-way UAVs that allowed them to detect and eliminate their operators.
WU Samurai Telegram channel, run by soldiers involved in intercepting Russian drones, reported on this.
According to them, they decided to tell this story solely because the enemy had already learned how they managed to do it.
To locate the Molniya UAV crew, it was necessary to bring a “small device” to the enemy drone.
To do this, they converted interceptor drones so that they simultaneously performed the function of radio reconnaissance and, if necessary, could destroy the enemy UAV if the situation did not go according to plan.
After detecting the position of enemy pilots, an FPV drone controlled by another team would fly to them and destroy them.
According to the fighters, each destruction of the Molniya UAV published on their channel is actually the result of the defeat or destruction of the enemy operators who were flying the drone at the time.
Recently, it was reported that the Unmanned Systems Forces began intercepting enemy Shahed (“Geran”) kamikaze drones using “the latest means.”
It is reported that operators of the Darknode unit of the 412th NEMESIS regiment have already destroyed more than 10 enemy Shahed-136/131 drones using a device whose name and type have not been disclosed.
The Unmanned Systems Forces detail that the product costs about $5,000, while the cost of enemy kamikaze drones is more than $150,000.
“The Unmanned Systems Forces continue to implement innovative solutions that increase the effectiveness of the Ukrainian Defense Forces to save the lives of Ukrainians,” the USF Command said.
The use of such drones by the Unmanned Systems Forces against Russian Shahed was demonstrated in early February by the PRESSING YouTube channel, but the drone itself was not presented.
