The Ukrainian military discussed the capabilities of the MAGURA V5 unmanned surface vehicle.

They also demonstrated its driving and maneuvering characteristics.

The Ukrainian USV was presented in the CNN story.

MAGURA V5 can conduct reconnaissance, surveillance, and search and rescue operations at sea, as well as execute striking missions.

The drone is designed for use on the high seas. It is entirely developed and manufactured in Ukraine.

The shape of the bottom of the hull of the unmanned vessel indicates that it is designed to move at high speed.

The drone has a small superstructure in the middle part, in front of which is a complex with rotary cameras. MAGURA V5 can cover a distance of up to 800 kilometers.

“This drone is faster than anything on the Black Sea.” the drone developer shared.

The drone is controlled with a special portable remote control panel with screens and a set of keys and switches.

The operator observes the situation around the drone with the help of cameras and can control it until the moment of hitting a certain target.

Declared characteristics of MAGURA V5 include:

  • Length: 5.5 m;
  • Width: 1.5 m;
  • Cruising speed: 22 knots;
  • Maximum speed: 42 knots;
  • Communication: mesh radio with an air repeater or satellite communication.

As a kamikaze drone, it can strike enemy surface ships, both at sea and at military bases in bays. To do this, a marine drone can carry up to 320 kilograms of explosives.

Such drones have repeatedly attacked Russian warships and the Black Sea Fleet naval bases in the temporarily occupied territory.

The silhouette of this unmanned vessel is similar to those surface drones previously caught on video during attacks on Sevastopol Bay and on warships of the Russian Navy.

The American journalists claim in the story that two such naval drones hit the Kerch Bridge connecting temporarily occupied Crimea and Russia. This caused damage to the span and roadway.

USV attacks

In October 2022, naval drones attacked the Russian Project 11356R frigate Admiral Makarov. The Russian minesweeper Ivan Golubets was also damaged. In November 2022, the naval drones attacked the Sheskharis pipeline in Novorossiysk.

Already on March 24 and April 24, 2023, attacks of unmanned vessels were recorded in Sevastopol Bay, where the base of the Russian Black Sea Fleet is located.

On 24 May, the Russian reconnaissance ship Ivan Khurs was attacked.

Also on June 11, naval drones attacked another Russian reconnaissance ship, Vishnya-class Priazovye, 300 kilometers southeast of Sevastopol.
