The Armed Forces of Ukraine have completed training on Challenger 2 tanks in the UK, The Guardian reports.

According to the publication, the crews of combat vehicles have already returned to Ukraine.

Soldiers have learned to operate these British main battle tanks and effectively identify and destroy targets on the battlefield.

“Ukrainian soldiers return to their homeland better equipped, but with no less danger. Their determination is inspiring, and we will continue to do all we can to support Ukraine for as long as it takes,” the UK defence secretary, Ben Wallace said.

Among other things, Ukrainian crews received training that included instructions how to command, drive and work together as a Challenger 2 tank crew.

The Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom announced at the end of January that Ukrainian tank crews had arrived in the UK to begin training in the Challenger 2 tank operation.

Earlier, the British Ministry of Defense officials made a statement that the supply of tanks was planned by the end of March 2023. Until then, the Ukrainian crews would be trained on how to operate and maintain the tanks.

As previously reported, the British government will hand over 14 Challenger 2 main battle tanks to Ukraine.

The aid package for the the Armed Forces of Ukraine will comprise 100 armored vehicles, including Bulldog armored personnel carriers, a battery with eight AS-90 155mm self-propelled guns (two more batteries will be provided later), dozens of drones, 100,000 rounds of ammunition, hundreds of missiles (GMLRS, Starstreak, AMRAAM), and spare parts for vehicles.

The Challenger 2 is a third-generation British main battle tank. It was designed and constructed by the British company Vickers Defence Systems. The machine is in service with the militaries of the United Kingdom and Oman. The Challenger 2 is equipped with a 120-millimeter 55-caliber-long L30A1 tank gun. The tank has a modern fire control system.

Also, the second cohort of Ukrainian soldiers is already finishing their training on AS-90 self-propelled howitzers.
