The Armed Forces of Ukraine actively use captured Russian weapons and equipment against the invasion forces.
Ukrainian servicemen, in particular, use BMPs, armored personnel carriers, and tanks taken from the Russians.
The marines told Ukrainian Channel 5 how their unit got Russian armored vehicles.
The 503rd Naval Infantry Battalion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces serve in the Donetsk Region.
Thanks to effective reconnaissance and a well-planned ambush, the Ukrainian marine unit received a fully equipped Russian BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicle and a BTR-82A wheeled armored personnel carrier at its disposal.
Now, these armored vehicles are fighting at the frontline against the Russian invasion forces.
Additionally, the Ukrainians seized ammunition, which is now being actively used against the enemy as well.
The servicemen noted that due to damage some captured Russian equipment can only be used as a spare parts donor for the working vehicles.
In addition to BMPs and armored personnel carriers, the marines also destroyed and captured T-72 tanks.
The BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicle is armed with a 2А70 100 mm gun, a 2А72 30 mm automatic gun, and a 7.62 mm PKTM machine gun. The vehicle is designed to transport the personnel to the frontline. It ensures increased mobility, armament, and security of soldiers during nuclear warfare and coordinated efforts in tank combat.
The BTR-82 armored personnel carrier is the latest version of the BTR-80 with a 2A72 30 mm gun. The vehicle is designed to transport units, provide fire support in combat zones, as well as destroy manpower, anti-tank weapons, and light armored enemy vehicles.
The body of the armored personnel carrier is a modernized body of the BTR-80. It can accommodate an amphibious detachment, overcome water obstacles, and protect against weapons of mass destruction. Anti-bullet armoring of the hull and turret provides protection against small arms bullets, as well as mine and projectile fragments.
