Ukrainian instructors with combat experience will help the German military prepare for a possible Russian attack on NATO.
Christian Freuding, German Army Commander, announced this in an interview with Reuters.
Last month, Kyiv and Berlin agreed that Ukraine would send its instructors to German military training institutions to share their experience gained in the fight against the Russian aggressor.
“The Ukrainian military is currently the only one in the world that has experience in combat operations against Russia,” Freuding emphasized.
He noted that Germany was the first country to agree with Ukraine on sending instructors, but predicts that other Western countries may follow suit.
The first contingent of Ukrainian instructors will comprise several dozen people and remain in Germany for several weeks.
It is expected that the Ukrainians will share their experience in the use of artillery, engineering training, and armored operations with German soldiers.
In addition, the German military will learn to use drones and modern approaches to operational command and control.
Germany believes that the exchange of practical knowledge of modern warfare is necessary to improve the combat readiness of its own units.
When asked what contribution Ukrainian military instructors would make, Freuding referred to assessments by German and other Western intelligence services that Russia could be ready for a major attack on NATO by 2029.
“The enemy will not wait until we are ready. We must use every opportunity to prepare,” the commander-in-chief of the Bundeswehr added.
If the project is implemented as planned, it will be an important step in cooperation between Ukraine and Germany, not only in the field of arms supplies and training, but also in the direct exchange of combat experience.
