Ukrainian-made HIMERA radio stations have been integrated with the ATAK navigation and situational awareness system.

The integration was announced by the manufacturer, Himera Radios. According to the company, its goal is to ensure full compatibility of HIMERA solutions with all major situational awareness platforms used by the Defense Forces of Ukraine – including Kropyva, ComBat Vision, and ATAK.

The integration with the ATAK platform was tested using its civilian version, CIVTAK.

The transmission of tactical markers and other combat information is carried out via a plugin developed by the Estonian company Wayren.

Currently, the ATAK system is actively used by the units of the Special Operations Forces, the ‘Alpha’ Special Operations Center, the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, and other combat units.

“Integration with ATAK is extremely important. It is a full-fledged combat system that brings together drones, artillery, reconnaissance, and battle management into a single platform. Its strength lies in its flexibility: from a general to an evacuation vehicle driver, everyone has a simple, clearly defined task. It is also a bridge for real-time interoperability with NATO partners,” said one ATAK user serving in the Ukrainian Special Operations Forces.

The company stated that its primary goal is full interoperability, where each radio is not just a voice communication device but also a source of tactical data on the battlefield.

ATAK

The ATAK is smartphone software designed for navigation and situational awareness.

The system was developed by the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL).

The platform enables users to work with an interactive map: mark targets, conduct reconnaissance of the surrounding area, gain a comprehensive view of the tactical situation, perform navigation, and exchange data between users.

The ATAK also supports the overlay of geospatial data formats such as KML, KMZ, and GPX, as well as the real-time transmission of images and video directly onto the map.
