Ukrainian artillery managed to reach and destroy the Russian Buk air defense system.
The combat work of artillery was shown by the Ukrainian military in the Balu HUB group.
Before the strike, a reconnaissance drone spotted the position of the Russian air defense system.
It is worth noting that the Russian air defense system could not detect the Ukrainian drone.
The Ukranian Forces managed to affect the system in the forest in the Velikonovosilkivsky district at the junction of the Donetsk and Zaporizhzhya regions.
The striking effect was very similar to that of the SMArt or BONUS 155mm ammunition.
The action principle of such rounds lies in their ability to divide into submunitions during the flight. These submunitions are capable of detecting and attacking the target in the air independently.
The submunition has a highly penetrating warhead for use against armored targets.
Rounds are compatible with most modern 155mm artillery systems, so the fire is carried out in a similar way to conventional shells, after which it flies in the air along the usual ballistic trajectory of 155mm shells.
Recently, it became known that the 43rd Artillery Brigade is armed with DM702, also known as SMArt 155 projectiles.
The Ukrainian military uses PzH 2000 ACS to fire these shells.
The DM702 high-precision projectile has two submunitions, which are separated after firing and begin to “search” for a target in the corresponding zone. Such a zone is determined before firing by the operator, who is programming the time and approximate range of the parachute opening. After the parachutes are opened, the target search begins using infrared, radar, and radiometric sensors.
