Ukraine has received dozens of heavy Ultra logistics drones capable of delivering cargo weighing up to 150 kg to troops on the front line.
Windracers granted BFBS Forces News journalists access to its new production site, where the Ultra unmanned aerial system is assembled.
Built at a factory in the UK, the aircraft are currently being used on the Ukrainian front line to carry out critical resupply missions.
Further deliveries of the drones to Ukraine are planned in the coming weeks. The Ukrainian military has been operating ULTRA systems since 2023.
Ultra has a wingspan of 10 meters and was originally designed primarily for cargo and logistics transport.
It can carry a payload of up to 150 kg over distances exceeding 1,000 km.
In response to operational requirements, Windracers plans in the coming months to upgrade the Ultra to carry up to 200 kg over distances of up to 2,000 km.
The aircraft is made almost entirely of aluminum and features a simple design, keeping production costs low and allowing for field repairs.
The Ultra is equipped with two engines and a redundant flight-control system, increasing resilience to equipment failures and external threats.
The drone is fitted with several GPS antennas, but because signal jamming is a significant challenge in Ukraine, it can also operate using protected, interference-resistant antennas. Its main advantage, however, is its cargo compartment.
In addition to delivering essential supplies, the Ultra can carry reconnaissance equipment and conduct precision airdrops, providing Ukrainian frontline units with broader logistical options than most fixed-wing drones used in combat. It is designed for rapid loading and unloading, and its modular cargo floor can be quickly reconfigured for different missions.
Windracers can currently produce up to 10 Ultra drones per month and plans to double output over the next two years.
