An operator of an FPV interceptor of the 11th Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine shot down a Russian Lancet kamikaze drone.
Volunteer and blogger Serhii Sternenko reported on this.
He also released a video of the interception of this Russian drone in one of the sectors.
“It (the drone – ed.) was trying to attack one of our facilities, but not today, b@stards, not today,” the volunteer shared.
The Russian kamikaze drone was shot down by a modified FPV interceptor drone, which was purchased and handed over to the defense at the expense of volunteers within the Heavenly Rusoriz project.
The Ukrainian troops are increasingly intercepting Russian drones using FPV drones. Currently, there are several publicly known projects in Ukraine to supply such modified drones to the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
In recent weeks, Ukrainian interceptor drones have shot down more than a hundred Russian reconnaissance drones.
These are common Russian military-grade wing drones: Supercam S350, ZALA 421-16E, and Orlan-10. The Russian invaders used them to reconnoiter Ukraine’s frontline and rear areas, adjust artillery systems, and loiter munitions.
FPV drones modernized for such tasks with a high-explosive warhead mostly perform the interception itself. However, it is known that some militaries also practice other methods of shooting down, such as ramming.
In late August, the Come Back Alive Foundation provided four more units with equipment that will help them shoot down Russian drones.
The equipment is being transferred as part of the ‘Dronefall’ project. The project’s goal is to shoot down a thousand Russian reconnaissance UAVs with upgraded FPV drones.
Russian Lancet loitering munitions have become one of the biggest threats to the Ukrainian military. The Russians use Lancet LM to defeat armored vehicles, artillery, and other important targets on the battlefield or in the near rear of Ukrainian troops. Previously, the Russian Federation presented the Lancet-E system.
