Ukrainian Defense Forces struck the Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant (also known as the Alchevsk Iron and Steel Works) in the Luhansk region, where the invaders had set up production of shells.

This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“In order to reduce the enemy’s offensive capabilities, the Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant, an enterprise for the production of components (shells) for ammunition ordered by the Russian Ministry of Defence, was shelled in the temporarily occupied territory of the Luhansk region,” the ministry said.

According to the General Staff, a hit and subsequent fire were recorded at the facility. The results and extent of the damage are being clarified.

The attack was confirmed by local residents who posted videos showing drones flying overhead and hitting the plant.

Judging by the comments made by residents on the video and in local chat rooms, the plant’s oxygen shop, which is essential for steel production, was likely hit. However, the extent of the damage is still unknown.

“An airplane-type drone crashed and exploded in the industrial zone of Alchevsk… There are no casualties or injuries. Rescuers quickly eliminated the fire,” the Russian occupation administration said, confirming the attack.

The Alchevsk Iron and Steel Works is located in the city of Alchevsk, about 65 kilometers from the front line, which has been occupied by Russia since 2014. It is one of the oldest ferrous metallurgical enterprises in eastern Ukraine.

Since 2015, the enterprise has been virtually shut down and gradually degraded, but in 2021 it resumed steel production.

As a reminder, in early November, Ukrainian attack drones hit an ammunition depot of the Russian occupation forces in Dovzhansk of the Luhansk region.

Video footage taken by eyewitnesses shows a fire and the detonation of ammunition. Before that, public reports indicated that drones were flying around midnight.

The day before, the Special Operations Forces (SOF) also used FP-2 strike drones to hit railroad fuel tanks near Dovzhansk and a warehouse with property near Luhansk.
