Ukrainian drones hit a Russian oil depot in the Voronezh region, causing a fire.
The Exilenova+ Telegram channel reported on this.
The drone strike occurred overnight on January 28. By the morning, Voronezh Region Governor Alexander Gusev confirmed the attack and said a fire had broken out at the facility.
According to analysts from the Telegram channel, the drones targeted the Khokholskaya oil depot in the settlement of Khokholsky.
Local residents also reported hearing explosions in the Khokholsky district of the Voronezh region.
Earlier in the evening, after 9:00 p.m., a drone alert was declared in the region and remained in effect until nearly 11:00 p.m.
As is customary for Russian officials, the governor claimed that air defense systems had operated successfully, including electronic warfare (EW) equipment.
He said the fire at the oil depot was caused by falling debris from Ukrainian drones. He also warned residents that they could face liability for posting photos or videos online showing the consequences of Russian air defense activity.
“When the suppressed UAVs fell, petroleum products caught fire, but it has now been extinguished,” Gusev reported.
In the morning, Russia’s Ministry of Defense claimed that two drones had been shot down in the Voronezh region.
It is worth noting that satellite imagery has also confirmed the consequences of a recent strike on the “Penzanefteprodukt” oil depot in the Russian city of Penza.
The images clearly show at least one fuel tank completely destroyed, as well as signs of thermal damage to several neighboring storage tanks.
