Tank units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces are using 125mm high-explosive rounds for Soviet-type tanks of Iranian production.

The news was made public by Ukraine Weapons Tracker OSINT channel’s analysts.

In the video, tankers of the Ukrainian Т-72АМТ tank are featured unpacking ammunition boxes during the loading it in the combat vehicle before the task.

The ammunition captured on the frames is a copy of the Soviet 3OF19 125mm projectiles, which was designed back in the 60s.

The Iranian origin of the shells can be identified due to a specific feature: the black-colored tail of the ammunition.

In addition, the shells are packed in characteristic shipping containers for ammunition, which can be identified in frames by marking and shape.

The 3OF19 projectile is part of the 3VOF22 round, which was developed for the 2А46 gun in the Soviet Union and adopted in 1962.

Despite the age of its development, the projectile is still relevant due to its simplicity of design and high power. Designers note that 90% of the lethal zone for infantry in case of detonation is 40m wide and 20m deep.

The projectile weighs 23 kilograms and is equipped with a TNT explosive mixture of A-IX-2 brand weighing 3.4 kilograms.

This is not the first time that Iranian weapons have been in Ukraine. Earlier in the service with the defense forces 122mm and 152mm artillery rounds, as well as 122mm rockets to MLRS were noticed.

The source of supplies of Iranian products is unknown, but the ammunition was mostly produced in 2022, which may indicate their receipt not from old stocks, but directly from the manufacturer through third countries.

Militarnyi has also reported that the United States is considering sending thousands of captured Iranian weapons and ammunition to Ukraine, which was intercepted on the way to Yemen.

The U.S. Department of Defense officials are planning to send more than 5,000 assault rifles, 1.6 million small arms rounds and a small number of anti-tank missiles seized from Iranian smugglers in recent months.
