The Defense Forces destroyed the Russian 2S4 Tyulpan self-propelled heavy mortar in the Donetsk region.
This was reported by the Ukraine Weapons Tracker analytical group.
The 2S4 Tyulpan 240mm self-propelled mortar was destroyed due to the joint work of four defense units. Namely, the Solovey air reconnaissance units, the 116th Brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces, 79th Air Assault Brigade and 55th Artillery Brigade.
The video shows how the position of Russian mortars, deployed right in the middle of residential blocks, is suppressed by the fire of the gunners of the 55th Artillery Brigade.
As a result of the strike, the Russian self-propelled mortar burned down, but part of the crew managed to escape. The moment when the engine-transmission compartment of the mortar and the place of the driver, which were located at the front of the hull, were literally split into pieces, can be seen on the video.
It was possible to identify the exact location of the destroyed artillery system, this is the eastern outskirts of the city of Mariyinka, Prokofiev Street (47.931047, 37.539303).
The authors of the video did not indicate what type of weapon they used to hit the target, but it is known that the 55th Artillery Brigade is armed with French Caesar self-propelled howitzers.
It is worth noting that a month ago, an artillery unit of the same brigade destroyed another 2S4 Tyulpan self-propelled heavy mortar near these positions. The firing position of the invaders’ self-propelled mortar was among the trees near the slagheaps. The 79th Air Assault Brigade spotted it due to aerial reconnaissance.
The 2S4 Tyulpan self-propelled heavy mortar is created on the basis of a M-240 240mm towed mortar. Its manufacturer is the Uraltransmash (Ural Plant of Transport Engineering – ed.).
The self-propelled mortar was created to destroy fortifications, manpower, and enemy equipment with conventional and special (nuclear) projectiles.
In the Russian-Ukrainian war, the invaders used these mortars mainly to destroy the most fortified targets.
The base ammunition of the mortar consists of conventional 53-F-864 high-explosive projectiles weighing 130.7 kg with a maximum range of fire up to 9.65 km. The mortar can use quite rare 3F2 rocket-assisted projectiles weighing 228 kilograms, which are able to hit targets at a distance of up to 20 kilometers.
