The Ukrainian Defense Forces are using the Sudanese 120mm mortar rounds.

The 24th Mechanized Brigade shared a photo of those on their Facebook page.

Markings on the mortar rounds state that the shells were produced in 2023.

It is reported that Sudan has a YIC (Yarmouk Military Industrial Complex) enterprise producing armored vehicles, small arms, ammunition, and Soviet-type artillery systems.

The enterprise’s products include a local version of the BRDM-2 called Amir 2 and an Amir armored vehicle.

In addition, the plant produces Chinese Type 59 and Type 88 tanks under the local names Al Zubair 2 and Al Basheer.

It also carries out deep modernization of Т-54, Т-55, and Type 59 tanks called Al Zubair 1.

Photos of 82mm mortar rounds that were produced by this enterprise were previously published online.

It is reported that 35% of the shares in the corporation that owns the plant belong to Iran, and at various times, the plant employed specialists from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Interestingly, in 2012, the plant was subjected to an air strike, most likely carried out by Israel, whose officials did not comment on the incident.

It is not known how these munitions got to Ukraine. They could have been seized in one of the smuggled cargoes or acquired through intermediary companies or other countries.

Militarnyi recently reported that the Defense Forces used Iranian 122-mm shells manufactured in 2023.

Ukraine has in its arsenal Iranian HM-15 82mm and HM-16 120mm mortars and corresponding mortar rounds to them of Iranian production.
