The Ukrainian military destroyed the Russian BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicle, equipped with the Kaktus reactive armor.
Militarnyi reports on this.
The enemy vehicle was discovered and destroyed in the village of Ivanivske on the outskirts of Bakhmut, Donetsk region.
The 1st Battalion of the 5th Assault Brigade released the video of the destruction of the Russian IFV.
In addition to dynamic protection, the BMP-3 688M-SB3KDZ was equipped with a so-called “grill” to protect the upper part of the turret and hull from drone strikes and UAV drops.
The Ukrainian defense does not disclose the weapons used to hit the invaders’ infantry fighting vehicle.
However, judging by the video, the BMP was probably hit by FPV drones while moving or stopping on the street of a settlement where active hostilities are ongoing.
Last month, a BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicle with a Kaktus ERA of the Russian invaders was first spotted.
The 4S24 Kaktus reactive armor is designed to be installed on the BMP-3 and is a quick-detachable module that can be replaced in the field.
For additional protection, the turret is fitted with rubber shields and “grilles” in the engine and transmission compartment area.
Due to the additional weight and dimensions, the BMP-3 equipped with this kit loses its ability to float. However, according to the manufacturers, the mounted modules can almost completely neutralize the impact of non-tandem HEAT rocket-propelled grenades and anti-tank guided missiles with armor penetration of up to 500-550 mm.
Such armor should significantly increase the protection of Russian light armored vehicles from Ukrainian attack drones, which are equipped with cumulative warheads and are massively used on the front line.
