The Chechen volunteers in Ukraine are armed with SIG 516 assault rifles.
The weapons were shown by volunteers of the Separate Special Purpose Battalion of the Ministry of Defense of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria.
“Abdul Hakim and a new batch of weapons for the Battalion,” reads the message that was attached to the photos.
Chechen volunteers defend Ukraine as part of the International Legion.
Among the volunteers is the hero of the Ichkerian people, Abdul Hakim, who showed the new weapons of the Chechen unit.
Abdul Hakim led the Ajnad al-Caucasus group in Syria before the full-scale Russian invasion on February 24.
“After February 24, his group became part of the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, a volunteer unit within the Ukrainian International Legion,” the Ukrainian Defense Intelligence said.
On October 15, Abdul Hakim received the rank of colonel of the Armed Forces of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria.
To strengthen this formation, weapons of various types were allocated, in particular the SIG 516 rifle.
In 2010, the American division of the international arms company SIG Sauer created NATO SIG 516 5.56mm, a whole family of assault rifles and self-loading rifles.
In essence, the weapon was an attempt to refine the AR-15/M16 rifle system, which was popular in the United States. A refusal from direct gassing inside the bolt frame was part of the attempt.
Recall that the Separate Special Purpose Battalion also has Romanian PM md. 90 7.62×39mm machine guns. Volunteers from Chechnya are equipped with other various weapons: Glock 17 Gen3 pistols, AKS-74U assault rifles, AKS-74, machine guns, PSRL-1 grenade launchers, Fagot ATGM and other weapons.
