Drone operators from the Phoenix Company of the Pomsta Brigade destroyed the R-330 Zhitel EW system using FPV drones while repelling an assault in the Donetsk region.
The Phoenix Company’s press service released the corresponding video.
“In the Donetsk region, under the cover of the R-330 Zhitel EW system, the enemy attempted to break through towards Ukrainian positions. The result was predictable: Phoenix destroyed all enemy targets,” the statement reads.
Judging by the published video, Russian troops attempted a mechanized assault using a tank equipped with a large anti-drone “hut.”
However, the tank was first struck by a bomber drone and then finished off by several FPVs.
The Zhitel system was detected by a reconnaissance drone and then hit by an FPV drone. The kamikaze drone strike caused a fire that ultimately completely destroyed the vehicle.
The Russian R-330Zh Zhitel electronic warfare system is designed for automated detection, direction finding, and analysis of radio signals across the operational frequency range.
It is claimed that the system is capable of jamming subscriber terminals of Inmarsat and Iridium satellite communication systems, as well as consumer equipment of the NAVSTAR satellite navigation system (GPS). It also interferes with base stations and terminal devices of cellular radio communication systems operating in the GSM-900/1800 and 1900 standards.
In February 2025, the Ukrainian military struck the Russian R-330Zh Zhitel and the Msta-B howitzer in the Kursk region.
The enemy’s electronic warfare system was located by members of the UA REG TEAM unit of the Special Operations Forces in cooperation with one of the units of the 140th SOF center.
A reconnaissance drone from Ukrainian special forces recorded precise strikes on Russian positions near a forest.
As a result of the strike, the personnel servicing the Russian EW system were killed on the spot. The system itself likely suffered significant damage or was entirely disabled.
